Barberton 2012

Hi guys !

So the year has kicked off with a bang and on Saturday I rode the MTN Barberon 1/2 Marathon driven by Nissan . I was very excited and anxious as it was my first race of the year and I didnt know what to expect !

It was an early start to the day as we had to get there on time for Candice Neethling , Ashleigh P-Moffatt and Slahde Seales Marathon race as they stayed with us for the weekend !

My race started at 8:15 and it was already boiling hot by the time we were off .This was my 3rd year doing Barberton so I knew what to expect. The 12km climb is always a killer but once I got to the top there was a big downhill waiting ! Linda Van Wyk was my big competion so I knew that I had my work cut out for me . I experienced 3 technicals on the race but luckily I managed to sort it out quickly. It was extremely hot and I just had to keep on telling myself to hydrate , so I fueled up at every water station ! My cross country skills definitely played a big role in the race as there were a lot of rocky downhill sections and A LOT OF water crossings.. At least the water cooled me off ! We did some great single track for the last 3 km but I knew it was time to get back to the finish . I was cheered on by Slahde ( who came 2nd in the Marathon just behind Lourens Luus ... WELL DONE ) and My sister saffron ( who came first in the 20 km race in her BMC kit ... WELL DONE) I managed to take 2nd place for the day behind Linda Van Wyk !

Well done to both my teammates Candice , who took 2nd place in the Marathon and Ashleigh who came in the top ten for the Marathon !

I am happy to say that I shed 20 min off my time from last year . Its a good way to start off the year but  there is definitely room for improvement ! To all those that rode Barberton I hope you had a fantastic race and drank a lot as it was as hot as satins toenails !

Until next time peeps ... and keep pedalling those bicycles !

Happy New Year !

Hi everyone !

Happy New Year ! I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the festive season !
Its a new year , which means a new chapter has opened for me . My racing season kicks off with the 1/2 Marathon in Barberton on the 28th but after that I plan to focus on xco for the year.

I have been training very hard and have been putting a lot of hours in the saddle this holiday so I am very excited to see how I perform at my first race !

As I am starting Grade 11 this year I know I have my work cut out for me with school as I will be away a lot due to my racing , but nevertheless I will just have to plan , plan and PLAN !

I am excited to see what all this new year brings for me with my riding and I know I will give my all to achieve my goals and to see the results that I want to see !

Have a Great 2012 and always stay positive !
